Dover House Lions- Football Fundraising!
08 September 2020
Their stomping ground, Roehampton Playing Fields is located right next to Queen Mary’s Hospital and during lockdown, the players and kids at the club went above and beyond to create some amazing notes and drawings of support to the NHS in the hope that someone might spot them as they walk by and know they were thinking of them.
Well they certainly did make an impact as Julie Williams, staff member at Queen Mary’s Hospital told us "I walked past the pictures everyday on my way to work, it really cheered me up during the tough times that we were going through. I felt so grateful that the children had taken the time to make pictures to thank the NHS staff.” Julie told us how she wrote back to the club, thanking them and stuck it right beside their notes.
Anita Rusell, club welfare officer at Dover House Lions was so touched by Julie’s response that she wanted to go even further and this resulted in the club being spurred onto fundraise for the Trust by holding a friendly football match in aid of St George’s Hospital Charity.
We were invited down on 6 September to a friendly football game at the club and what a great fundraiser it was. With all the covid checks and social distancing in place, the sun came out for a great ladies game followed by a men’s game and a raffle with some great prizes.
The club have so far raised around £2500 and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support. We look forward to seeing Julie at one of their games in the near future!
